REST FROM WEARY WORKS

His (God's) work has been finished since the creation of the world. "Today," saying through David, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts." For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on. So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest. Hebrews 4:3, 7‭-‬11 ESV ¶Moses appointed for God's people the day of the Sabbath to be a time of rest. Joshua won for God's people the land of Canaan as a place of rest. But there was another promised rest still to be gained. Hebrews says that rest was actually part of the work of God finished since the creation of the world. But it still for us to make every effort to enter that rest. What sort of effort is this? It is to cease from striving, to lay our weary burden down, to stop defendin...

BREAD UNSPOILED

In the evening quail came up and covered the camp, and in the morning dew lay around the camp. And when the dew had gone up, there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost on the ground. When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, "It is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat. On the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers each. And when all the leaders of the congregation came and told Moses, he said to them, "This is what the Lord has commanded: 'Tomorrow is a day of solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord ; bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over lay aside to be kept till the morning.'" Exodus 16:13‭-‬15‭, ‬22‭-‬23 ESV ¶This bread of heaven was sent from God to His people so that they might have their Sabbath rest, and they didn't even recognize it as foo...

WHAT HEALINGS ARE ALL ABOUT

Exodus 15:23‭-‬26 ESV When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah. And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?" And he cried to the Lord , and the Lord showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the Lord made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them, saying, "If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord , your healer." Having delivered His people from the diseases of Egypt, God seals his promise with a name. His people may call on Him by the name Raphe, healer. He acted through the means of His servant Moses, and Moses through the means of a stick. Did God heal the waters of Marah? Ye...

God to the King: Copy the Book

2 Chronicles 29:25, 32:25 ESV And he [Hezekiah] stationed the Levites in the house of the Lord with cymbals, harps, and lyres, according to the commandment of David and of Gad the king's seer and of Nathan the prophet, for the commandment was from the Lord through his prophets... 25  But Hezekiah  *  did not make return according to the benefit done to him, for  *  his heart was proud. Therefore  *  wrath came upon him and Judah and Jerusalem. ¶Hezekiah, and all kings of Israel, were to make for themselves a copy of the book of the Law, "that his heart may not be lifted up above his brothers", in other words, that he might not become prideful. Without it, Hezekiah's reformation goes forward, but he himself becomes what is depicted in chapter 32:25. He falls victim to pride, incurring God's own wrath "upon him and Judah and Jerusalem." Even now, effective leaders write, copy, meditate on, rightly divide the Word of Truth, that they might obse...
