THE GUILTY GO FREE

Exodus 34:6-7 NIV‬
And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”

¶‭A God abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness but who by no means clears the guilty? This makes no sense without Jesus. He, born of these people, gathered not the righteous, but sinners unto Himself. He Himself "bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; 'by his wounds you have been healed'". (1 Peter 2:24)

O wondrous Love, to bleed and die,
to bear the cross and shame,
that guilty sinners such as I,
might plead the gracious name.
