CONTENT WITH CALAMITY
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for
you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast
all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may
rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with
weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I
am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 ESV
¶Paul
did not seek out hardships, they found him. But he did find contentment
in them. To seek out hardships, to court calamities, to become
deliberately depressed, these are ways we can try to set ourselves up as
deserving recipients of God's grace. On whose account do we labor? Is
it for ourselves', or for God's glory? Are our efforts just another form
of legalism? See what happens when, sooner or later, we come to the end
of our own efforts. Is there despair, or contentment?
