ITS OPEN SEATING!
And they said to him, "Grant us to sit, one at your
right hand and one at your left, in your glory." And they said to him,
"We are able." And Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you will
drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be
baptized, but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to
grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared." But it shall
not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your
servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For
even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his
life as a ransom for many."
Mark 10:37, 39-40, 43-45 ESV
¶James
and John thought they could get preferred seating by requesting an
early check-in. Despite all that Jesus had said and done, they
ultimately still thought that the first would be first, and the last
would be last. But Jesus came not upon a war horse, but on a burro. His
victory has already been won on a cross. His servanthood is not like a
cloak He puts on and takes off. He is not an order-taker for the ones
who know Him. He only does what He sees the Father doing.
