INTENDED CONSEQUENCES
The Son of Man will send his angels, and they
will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers,
and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be
weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the
sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
Matthew 13:41-43 ESV
¶Jews
must have heard this and remembered that the land promised to their
fathers was now occupied by their enemies the Romans. For us as men who
judge, then, the difficult part of going about destroying evil is the
unintended consequences. We destroy the good with the bad. We destroy
the bad, only to uncover another layer of badness beneath it. To wait
for the end of all things is to leave the winnowing, the weeding, the
"gathering out" to the Son of Man and His angels, to see not the end of
all things, but the final separation of truth from lies, good from evil.
