WHERE GLORY DWELLS
And you shall put the mercy seat on the top of the
ark, and in the ark you shall put the testimony that I shall give you.
There I
will meet with you, and from above the mercy seat, from
between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the testimony, I will
speak with you about all that I will give you in commandment for the
people of Israel.
Exodus 25:21-22 ESV
¶The Book of the
testimony Moses deposited within the Ark of the Covenant spelled out the
terms of God's covenant with His people. Out of all the struggles
Israel had honoring the terms of their covenant with God, the prophet
Jeremiah would bring good news of a new covenant, in which God says "I
will put my law in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts"
(Jeremiah 31:33) and Ezekiel says will give "a new heart and put a new
spirit in you" (Ezekiel 36:26), or as the apostle Paul put it, "Christ
in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27). God chooses to dwell
there, and His glory shines through.
