JESUS OUR JUBILEE

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
Isaiah 61:1 ESV

 

¶This verse from Isaiah 61:1 speaking of liberty for the captives and the restoration of Israel to their land stands between two other usages of these phrases, previously in Leviticus 25:10 of the proclamation of liberty and the restoration of their inheritance in the year of Jubilee, and subsequently in Luke 4:18 of the proclamation of liberty to the captives and the restoring of hearts through Jesus. He is Lord not only of the Sabbath, but of the Jubilee.
