HOLDING YOUR OWN

I hold fast my righteousness and will not let it go; my heart does not reproach me for any of my days. Job 27:6 ESV
 
 Can Job hold on to his claim to righteousness when none of the rewards of righteousness are redounding to him? The world's definition of success is that God rewards the righteous. We do the right thing in order to be rewarded and avoid penalty. Can the righteous soul then be tormented? Yes, even of Lot it is said by the apostle writing in 2 Peter that his righteous soul was tormented. Even more think of Jesus, who made of Himself nothing.

Psalm 36:10‭-‬11 ESV ¶The goal of the evil one is just to deprive us, not to have for himself the blessing of knowing God, just to take it away from us, just to drive us off the holy ground procured for us at the foot of the cross.

He asks their opinion. He asks them to inquire of the Lord for themselves, and decide. They have the opportunity to bring the ark of God close to them in their midst.
