SEAL OF APPROVAL
Bind up the testimony; seal the teaching among my
disciples. I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the
house of Jacob, and I will hope in him. Behold, I and the children whom
the Lord has given me are signs and portents in Israel from the Lord of
hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion.
Isaiah 8:16-18 ESV
¶One way
to test the validity of a prophetic word would be to write it on a
scroll and seal it up. Does the prophecy still stand at the unrolling of
the scroll, the revelation, the apocalypsis? But when to do this great
unsealing? That is the question in Daniel: "How long shall it be?" In
Revelation, this is the cry of the martyred saints from under the altar:
"how long, Sovereign Lord,...until you judge?" A time has been set,
but for now, we have the Lord's answer to Daniel's question: "Go your
way, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the
end."
So in the meantime, between the already and the not yet, we
walk by faith. Faith in the efficacy of the finished work to fulfill the
future promise. Blessed are the ones who have not yet seen His glory,
and yet believe.
