PROPHETS SUFFER FIRST
If you have raced with men on foot, and they
have wearied you, how will you compete with horses? And if in a safe
land you are so trusting, what will you do in the thicket of the Jordan?
Jeremiah 12:5 ESV
¶God
called Jeremiah to be a prophet among his people in Jerusalem. As a
prophet he was treated badly by them. But his struggles with them were
small compared with the shared trials they were facing. This is a call
to endurance. We too need to focus less on worldly concerns, and prepare
for the spiritual struggle which is at hand. Be reconciled with our
neighbors. Persevere in prayer. Jeremiah must first understand, and then
deliver the message to his people, that there is no peace and safety
apart from the will of the Lord.
