WE CAN WISH

 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies. The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
Nahum 1:2‭-‬3 ESV

¶We can wish it were not so. We can wish that the Lord set the cosmos whirling and sustains it by the word of His power with all its terrible beauty and balance merely for our whims, but it is not so. However, there is a severe mercy afoot in which He invites us to share, hid under the shadow of His wing. There we find shelter not only from the vissictudes of this world, but from the terror of His wrath.

He asks their opinion. He asks them to inquire of the Lord for themselves, and decide. They have the opportunity to bring the ark of God close to them in their midst.
