DECIDE, EXPERIENCE, TRUST, AND SERVE
The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. Fire goes before him and burns up his adversaries all around. His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the Lord , before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory. All worshipers of images are put to shame, who make their boast in worthless idols; worship him, all you gods! Zion hears and is glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoice, because of your judgments, O Lord . For you, O Lord , are most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods. Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.
Psalm 97:1-9, 11 ESV
¶If we were to come into the presence of a great and powerful person, we might be excited, even joyous at the opportunity, but we might also be nervous, even slightly cringing, in their presence. The two exist together. This is the implication of the word "gheel" used to describe the "rejoicing" of earth before the reign of God. All earth and sky rejoice to display God's power and majesty. If the earth could see and hear it would rejoice and be glad. No man-made idol can compare to the work of His hands displayed in nature. No man-made philosophy can penetrate the clouds and darkness which surround the Godhead. At the end of analysis comes deciding. At the end of observing comes experiencing. At the end of cringing comes trusting. At the end of desiring comes serving. When Zion's ears are unstopped, when the Lord sheds light for His righteous ones, then we can "join with all nature in manifold witness to His great faithfulness, mercy, and love."
