IN GOD IN CHRIST WE TRUST

In thee, O Lord , do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion. Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me.
Psalms 71:1‭-‬2 KJV

Does the psalmist have any claim to God's help? He calls upon God to deliver because of His righteousness. Is the psalmist blameless, that he can bring God's own righteousness to account? Does fairness dictate to God that He provide deliverance? No, but He is a covenant-keeping God. His steadfast love crosses the bounds of covenant, keeping it on our behalf. Going the extra mile, offering the shirt also when asked for the cloak, turning the other cheek, forgiving His enemies, these are the pictures of the One who...

...suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.
1 Peter 3:18

Ultimately, the cry "Deliver me in thy righteousness" is met in Christ...
...Who became for us wisdom from God, that is, our righteousness.
1 Corinthians 1:30

We demonstrate His life-giving power when we imitate His life.
